THE BOARDWALK
We walk along the boardwalk
We talk while on it, too
There upon the boardwalk dock,
Hearts become one, not two
We come to rest at wooden bench
To enjoy the view
When biting weather turns me blue,
You cling to me like glue
In that moment, sure, we knew--
For certain had a clue
That I could be forever yours,
But instead, I withdrew
To have you, then lose you
I could not bear to do
"What might have been" is much preferred
To "too good to be true"
And so we walk along the boardwalk and
In silence, extend our ruse
We reach the end of the boardwalk dock
I loved her and she never knew
We walk along the boardwalk
We talk while on it, too
There upon the boardwalk dock,
Hearts become one, not two
We come to rest at wooden bench
To enjoy the view
When biting weather turns me blue,
You cling to me like glue
In that moment, sure, we knew--
For certain had a clue
That I could be forever yours,
But instead, I withdrew
To have you, then lose you
I could not bear to do
"What might have been" is much preferred
To "too good to be true"
And so we walk along the boardwalk and
In silence, extend our ruse
We reach the end of the boardwalk dock
I loved her and she never knew
